The Papardes Foundation functions as a residency space for critical thought and creative practice, supporting artists, architects and researchers. Located in Mazirbe on the Livonian coast of Latvia, the estate comprises a house with studios and specialist library, surrounded by ten hectares of forest within Slitere National Park. This territory, historically home to the indigenous Liv people, offers a context rich in cultural significance and natural diversity.
The foundation occupies the former residence of Alexander Rappaport (1941-2025), architectural theorist, philosopher, art historian, artist and writer. Through its program, the foundation preserves and extends his intellectual legacy.
The foundation supports work engaged with the surrounding ecology, regional cultural history, and the intellectual domains central to Rappaport's practice: architectural theory, philosophy, visual arts, and interdisciplinary research.
